AVATARPOSTERAvatar is a science fiction film that begins in the year 2154 when the Earth is facing an energy crisis. Human colonists engaged in mining a mineral in the inhabited Earth-sized moon of Polyphemus called Pandora, to solve the 22nd century crisis.

Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a wheelchair-bound ex marine joined the mission and went to the earth-like environment of Pandora. Together with Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), Jake transferred to an Avatar to be able to mingle with Pandora’s natives called the Na’vi.

To be able to move freely and breathe in Pandora’s atmosphere, Avatar, a hybrid human-na’vi was created. This avatar is a mixture of human and Na’vi’s DNA.

Jake was sent to learn the Na’vi way. How they talk, behave and think. Along with this mission, he was also sent by the head of the Marines to ask the Na’vi to relocate to a new home.

Lost in the forest of Pandora due to an encounter with a ferocious animal in the wilds, Jake met a Na’vi girl named Neytiri. Soon enough, Jake’s adventure with the Na’vis will change the way he sees the natives and how to respect and form a sort of connection with the environment and ecosystem.

AVATAR is one of the best animated films that I have seen. Well, technically speaking, it’s not a full animated flick but the effects and animation were as good or maybe EVEN BETTER than other films of its contemporaries.

The eye-popping visuals of James Cameron (Director of Titanic) already tells the story. There are less talk and narrative is simple but the movie was able to sustain the viewer’s interest for almost three hours because of AVATAR’s superb and highly entertaining visuals. Just by watching the film, one could easily be transported to Pandora.

Story was brilliant and unpredictable. Watching it in 3D will immerse you even more to the enchanting land of Pandora. I personally love all the glow in the dark plants and flowers during night. How I wish we also have that here on Earth. Makes me wonder also if the Na’vis are really just products of technology or are they real humans in costumes and make up? Because really, they look SO REAL and ALIVE.

AVATAR4
The 15 years of waiting and crafting of this film by Cameron was not put into waste. Indeed the painstaking wait was worth it. The film looks like Lord of the Rings, Transformers and Star Wars rolled into one with more emphasis on the environment. Now, how timely could that get?

The effects, cinematography, musical scoring, story and characterization were all FANTASTIC. Exaggeration as it may seem, but AVATAR is worth every penny that you will spend and this review nor the star rating are not enough for me to convey how good the film is. Also, I personally think that Avatar’s trailer did not give justice to the film so you better check the film and don’t content yourself with trailers and movie reviews. Avatar is really worth watching and a great way to end the year 2009.

And oh, I heard in the bushes that if Avatar will be successful, two sequels to the film are planned. WOW! Crossing my fingers! ^_^
