District 9
Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with the Earth. Instead of being hostile and bringing in advancement in technology, these creatures seek refuge in the planet Earth and were relocated in South Africa’s District 9, which soon became a slum area, while officials argued what to do with them.
Sooner, control over the aliens was contracted to Multi-National United (MNU), a private military contractor. Having no concern for these creatures, MNU’s goal is to make the alien’s powerful weaponry work. They have failed many times in doing so since the weapons require an Alien DNA.
MNU’s field operative Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) accidentally contracts a mysterious virus that’s slowly changing his DNA from human to alien. Being the key to unlock the weaponry, Wikus soon became the most hunted man in the world. With no place to go, there’s only one place for him to hide, and that is in District 9.
District 9 is a very interesting and action packed film. It will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. It’s unpredictable because of its original concept. The flick will make you sympathize with the aliens and abhor humans.
The aliens look so authentic. They look like prawns and grasshoppers at the same time and they actually remind me of the movie Terminator vs Alien. Effects were great as well as characterization. The movie is very violent so kids are not really advised to see this film.
There are just some things that actually bother me, do humans, especially Wikus, understand Alien language? Because it seems to me that Wikus understands what the Aliens are talking about. And the MNU Captain, no matter how many injuries he acquires from the battle, is still alive and kicking?! I think that’s way unbelievable and quite annoying already.
The ending of the film is actually heartwarming and will leave you hanging. Now it made me wonder, would there be a sequel? And if yes, will it come after three years?
